Environmental Policy Statement
Prescott Associates Ltd is committed to the principles of sustainability and take pride in our environmentally based design philosophy.
As a minimum we meet the terms of all environmental laws and regulations. We also expect external parties such as contractors and suppliers to meet these laws where they are applicable. We encourage taking extra measures to further to conserve resources.
As directors, we have the responsibility for the environmental policy of our business. We make a strong commitment to continually improve our environmental performance by reviewing the policy annually and regularly auditing our activities. Any changes in the business work practices or staffing are assessed for their impact on the environmental and sustainability plans.
We are obligated to continually develop our education and training. We achieve this by identifying any relevant training that is required and arrange the necessary training through workshops, external courses and continuing professional development sessions.
Our Activities
In our studio, we continually strive to improve our procedures in order to reduce energy consumption and waste. This covers all aspects of running and working in our studio and the choices we make in regard to electricity, lighting, heating, appliances, equipment, materials, consumables and waste.
We aim to:
- be economical with travel by using vehicles with high fuel economy and by commuting to and from sites and work engagements in an economical way
- use recycled materials as much as possible and take part in recycling schemes that are available
- be economical with resources such as power and water and use efficient appliances
- apply the principles of the paperless office to our daily activities
- introduce the principles of the circular economy to our daily activities
- comply with the relevant legal requirements
Our Designs
As designers we have an impact on the environment through our work. Subsequently, our projects are designed, constructed and managed on site to have the smallest environmental footprint possible.
We strive to apply the principles of the circular economy to our work. The circular economy model treats resources as valuable both at the beginning and end of their life cycle. Beyond resources, we ensure designs are economical and future proof for ease of use and maintenance.
We aim to:
- use the principles of biodiversity, permaculture and conservation
- promote healthy living
- encourage the use of materials and resources of low embodied energy
- promote sustainable water principles
- encourage circular economic models in both the construction and use of our projects. This is achieved whre possible through the specification of appropriate materials and the provision of flexibility within the design
- make the best use of natural light
- reduce construction waste through attention to the sizing of elements
- use materials from sustainable resources and from local sources where possible
