Coastal Garden Design
We created this low maintenance coastal garden design at Gansey and took inspiration from its seaside location. Beach groynes provided influence for the curved wall of vertical posts which give shelter and screening. Following this we positioned a sitting area within the posts to take advantage of the sun and views.
We chose Pooil Vaaish limestone to pave the access from the main patio to the sitting area. To add interest we designed the paving in rectangular pieces to mirror the vertical sleepers. Pooyl Vaaish stone varies from grey when dry to a glossy black when wet which also highlights the occasional fossil.
We surfaced the remainder of the garden with beach cobbles interspersed with grasses and low shrubs and perennials. Due to the coastal location it is important that these plants are suited to the coastal conditions. Our colour palette uses a range of seaside greys through to sage greens, blues and purples with the odd splash of yellow and pink to add some additional warmth.
Our design included a bespoke monolithic standing stone of Pooil Vaaish limestone to serve as a house name post. We included an edge inscription, slaynt vie as maynrys er y thie shoh. This is a traditional Manx Gaelic blessing and means good health and happiness on this house. Our planting theme in this area echoes the moorlands with dwarf pine and heathers providing a footing for the stone.
This is one of our most prominent gardens and we hope that you will be able to spot it when you are in the area. In addition, Kilravock is available to book through Island Escapes: https://www.islandescapes.im/property/573023
